Bright Heart is an award-winning SEN-focused tutoring agency based in London
We offer a more nurturing approach to tuition.
We work with families, local authorities and schools and help students who:
We provide in-person tutoring in London and Parts of Surrey and Kent, and online tuition in the UK and Internationally. We cover most subjects from primary to A-level.
The Bright Heart Approach is our heart-based approach to learning.
It is a person-centred approach that has helped many of our students. It involves understanding a student’s unique perspective with warmth to intentionally build trust, self-esteem and self-belief, before building on academic abilities.
Our experienced team is passionate about helping children and young people achieve their potential
Our education consultants (all experienced UK-qualified teachers) take the time to fully understand students’ unique learning needs and ensure that we provide well-matched tutors.
Students receive individual learning plans (ILPs) that cater not only to their academic requirements but also to their SEMH needs. ILPs serve as a roadmap, guiding tutors to deliver tailored tuition that keeps students’ learning on track.
This may include special educational needs (SEN) or a desire for homeschooling. We provide in-person tuition and online tuition.
Our main focus areas:
We cover many other subjects including European languages, History, Geography, PE and Religious Studies.
* Rates vary based on the tutor’s experience and qualifications.
Bright Heart provides experienced, vetted and trained tutors that are carefully matched to students.
Tutors exemplify our heart-based ethos in all their tutoring.
Most tutors have teaching experience in addition to tutoring experience. Tutors are provided with training from nasen (National Association of Special Educational Needs).
We introduce self-employed tutors to clients as an agent through our tutoring agency
As scientific research shows, the mind has greater capability and performance when anchored by positive emotional states1. Our tuition approach is supported by the work of psychologist Carl Rogers2. He developed the person-centred approach and the idea of self-actualisation to fulfil one’s potential.
Our nurturing approach has been particularly beneficial for students who lack confidence or motivation, don’t quite ‘click’ in traditional classrooms, or have special needs (SEN).
The Bright Heart Approach is an investment in the whole student. It aims to generate self-belief and positively impact how the student approaches learning. This is a longer-term approach with the purpose to be a bridge towards self-sufficiency.
Struggling students often have self-limiting thought patterns. Focusing purely on the intellectual side of the person when tutoring is unlikely to surpass these boundaries. By successfully increasing self-esteem and motivation, a pathway to improved academic performance is provided.
There is strong alignment between our approach and person-centred education, as described in the SEND Code of Practice 0 to 25 (2015). Our tutors are provided with guidance and training to implement the Bright Heart Approach.
Heart Connection
Ryan witnessed first-hand – both teaching and tutoring for some of London’s top agencies – the lack of individual care and attention provided to students.
“Simply put, there was too much focus on the mind and short-term academic goals. This failed to acknowledge the needs of the heart to realise long-term potential. The former, imbalanced approach was especially problematic for students with special needs and those lacking in confidence or motivation.”
Ryan found that by acknowledging the whole person first and any challenges they may have, the mind would naturally follow. The benefits of this approach were demonstrated by the exam results his students achieved and their improved motivation for learning. Read more about Ryan’s tutoring ethos in this article published in the nasen Connect magazine.
Bright Heart was established to replicate Ryan’s successful approach to private tuition.
We call our tutoring methodology the Bright Heart Approach. It is a more nurturing approach, which puts into practice what we have observed across many students. It is based on our experience that effective tutoring connects on a deeper level than focusing purely on intellectual abilities. This leads to longer term stability and success.
We ensure our tutors are suitably prepared to meet student’s unique learning needs. Our training relationship with nasen helps to achieve this.
We believe that establishing good rapport with students is essential for successful tuition. Students therefore receive a trial lesson to ensure their tutor is a great match.
